Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a middle-age meaning in life scale. Pilot questions were devised by collecting scale questions from previous studies as well as interviewing middle-aged individuals. A preliminary scale was developed by analyzing the collected questions and using expert content validation. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out with data from 400 middle-aged individuals, which led to the development of a scale consisting of 8 factors and 40 questions. Factors included: positive meaning-making in life, close family relationships, satisfaction with leisure activities, empathetic interpersonal relationships, satisfaction with work, economic stability, self-acceptance and concern for others, and healthy body and mind. Finally, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted, with data from 400 middle-aged individuals to validate the effectiveness of the new 8-factor model. The analyses indicated that this new middle-age meaning in life scale is satisfactory and can be effectively applied to the development of counseling programs.
